The Education Working Group mission is to build public interest in cybersecurity, encourage Ohio citizens with the technical interest to pursue educational pathways growing Ohio’s cyber and technical workforce. To that end, we will focus on mentorship and educational efforts for K-12 students in alignment with Regional Programming Centers (RPCs) in the areas in which they operate.

How OhCR Helps

OhCR members can assist with mentoring and preparation for nationally recognized youth cybersecurity education programs.

  • Mentorship & Coaching: Cyber club mentoring, competition preparation plans and practice sessions, Windows/Linux security fundamentals, ethics, safety, and responsible use
  • Events & Camps: Volunteer mentors and instructors (as available), lab setup guidance and safe tooling, workshops, demos, and career talks, remote or on-site support where feasible
  • Partner with organizations to provide students with real-world experiences in cybersecurity.
  • Program Development: Start-up guidance for teams/clubs, partnership building and referrals, community event planning support, sustainable pipeline development

OhCR members can assist with mentoring and preparation for nationally recognized youth cybersecurity education programs:

CyberPatriot

Mentoring and coaching for the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition; team formation, practice workflows, Windows/Linux hardening fundamentals.

National Cyber League (NCL)

Preparation support for individual and team events; skills practice in scanning, web, crypto, log analysis, and incident response. See the NCL web site at https://nationalcyberleague.org for more information.

Carnegie Mellon picoCTF

Beginner-friendly CTF support; club activities, challenge walkthrough techniques, and safe lab habits.
