Educate

The Education Working Group mission is to build public interest in cybersecurity, encourage Ohio citizens with the technical interest to pursue educational pathways growing Ohio’s cyber and technical workforce. To that end, we will focus on mentorship and educational efforts for K-12 students in alignment with Regional Programming Centers (RPCs) in the areas in which they operate.

Our Vision

A future where all Ohioans have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes for safer, innovative, responsible, and productive users of cyber technology, and for a more secure and prosperous Ohio.

Our Mission

We seek to promote awareness about the inherent dangers of online activities and encourage ethical cyber-related education. We will:

  • Promote and sponsor comprehensive cyber education curriculum that is aligned with national standards.
  • Promote a safe and secure learning environment for students to learn and use cybersecurity tools responsibly.
  • Partner with businesses and organizations to provide students with real-world experiences in cybersecurity.
  • Raise awareness of the importance of cybersecurity among parents, educators, and the general public in Ohio.

Cyber Club Toolkit

The Cyber Club Toolkit is designed to help schools and other civic organizations create and run cyber clubs in Ohio. The toolkit will include cyber security activities, career resources, and other links to help students understand how cyber security impacts everyone and that there are significant current and future employment opportunities in this field. Many of these materials will be created by Ohio educators, industry partners, and government agencies and will be available for schools, after-school clubs, and other youth organizations in Ohio. OhCR CyberPatriot Program Support

CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program created by the Air & Space Forces Association to inspire K-12 students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation's future. At the core of the program is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, the nation's largest cyber defense competition that puts high school and middle school students in charge of securing virtual networks. Other programs include AFA CyberCamps, the CyberPatriot Alumni Network, an elementary school cyber education initiative, a children’s literature series, CyberGenerations –a senior citizen cyber safety initiative, and a Tech Caregivers program designed to encourage cyber-savvy volunteers to give back to their communities. OhCR reservists are available to support school CyberPatriot Programs. See the CyberPatriot web site at https://www.uscyberpatriot.org for more information.

OhCR National Cyber League (NCL) Support

The NCL is a defensive and offensive puzzle-based, capture-the-flag style cybersecurity competition. Its virtual training ground helps high school and college students prepare and test themselves against cybersecurity challenges that they will likely face in the workforce. The NCL challenges are based on the CompTIA Security+ TM and EC-Council Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) TM performance-based exam objectives. A key element of the NCL program is the creation of individualized “scouting reports” for each participant which can form an important part of college, internship, scholarship, and employment applications. OhCR reservists are available to support. See the NCL web site at https://nationalcyberleague.org for more information.
